A video of two apparent tourists who got their car stuck on an Ocean City beach Wednesday afternoon is making the rounds on social media.

A video posted to Facebook by user Ursula Clopper on March 7, 2018 shows two drivers who got their car stuck in the sand after driving onto an Ocean City beach.

During the 55-second video, the Chrysler 300's occupants can be seen walking around the vehicle and trying to put it in reverse without success. An Ocean City police patrol vehicle was parked nearby with officers preparing to assist the stranded motorists.

The user who originally posted the video to the Everything Ocean City & Delmarva Facebook group can be heard saying, "These guys are trying to push their car off of the beach. I think they're stuck really bad ... I guess these guys were excited about coming in from Texas. I guess nobody told them they can't drive their car on the beach."

By Thursday afternoon, the video had been shared more than 670 times and had 43 comments and 315 likes.

Ocean City police spokeswoman Lindsay Richard said instances of people driving cars on the beach don't happen too often, but are definitely not permitted.

"Every once in a while you will hear of somebody driving on the beach, and inevitably most of the time they will get stuck," she said.

Usually, officers will respond to help get the drivers unstuck, she said, but sometimes the incident can even require the aid of a tow truck.

Ocean City has an ordinance that prohibits people from parking or driving their vehicles on the beach without a permit, and violators could face a $250 fine.
