A Willards man is in custody in connection with the robbery of a PNC Bank branch on Tuesday, Dec. 5, according to the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office.

No arrests have been made so far in a second bank robbery Tuesday at a Hebron Savings Bank branch.

Bobby Lee Hornsby Jr., 38, was arrested and charged following a pursuit that ended on Route 50 near White Lowe Road, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Around 10:40 a.m., the Sheriff’s Office said it responded to the PNC Bank at 1512 S. Salisbury Blvd. after the suspect entered the bank and handed a bank teller a note demanding money and indicating he had a firearm.

The suspect fled the area in a black Chrysler 200, the sheriff's office said. During a canvass of the area, Salisbury Police Department detectives located Hornsby and his vehicle in the area of Route 13 and Vine Street. City detectives attempted to make contact with Hornsby, but he fled in his vehicle, police said.

Units from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office and the Salisbury Police Department pursued Hornsby, and Maryland State Police also assisted.

The pursuit traveled through Salisbury and ended in the area of the Route 50 Bypass near White Lowe Road. Pursuing units forced Hornsby to stop his vehicle, police said.

Hornsby is accused of purposely rear-ending a sheriff’s vehicle during the forced stop, causing minor property damage.

He was charged with robbery, theft, first- and second-degree assault and resisting arrest.

Hornsby was in the custody of the sheriff’s office pending transfer to the Wicomico County Detention Center.

The Hebron Savings Bank robbery was reported less than two hours later at 1008 W. Main St.

Law enforcement is investigating both bank robberies, but has not said yet whether the incidents are related.
