Police: Identity thief expands credit card fraud scheme to Salisbury

A woman who stole the identity of residents in the Kent Island area is believed to have used the fraudulent information to open credit-card accounts at businesses in and around Salisbury, the Salisbury Police Department said.

Salisbury police and Kent County Sheriff's Office detectives teamed up to investigate the fraud and name a suspect, of whom authorities have a photo, Salisbury police said Thursday, July 27.

The woman came under the radar of Kent County authorities during an identity theft investigation that determined she illegally took personal information from several victims around the county, according to police.

Kent County investigators contacted Salisbury police after suspecting the woman was in Salisbury opening credit accounts she then used to make purchases at retail stores, the police said.

The woman also is accused of presenting a fraudulent Maryland driver's license as identification when making credit card purchases, police said.
