Hoagie lovers and convenience connoisseurs may have to wade downstream during a month-long remodel at Wawa’s Lewes location, but handspun milkshakes and custom-made salads will greet them when the store reopens on March 9.

“All Wawa stores will receive improved layout features to advance efficiency and to support our expanded food and beverage offer,” public relations official Colleen Labik said.

The store is undergoing a diesel upgrade at the fuel pumps as well, so the gas station is closed, according to Labik. Tesla chargers will remain open.

The Lewes location is one of 75 older stores Wawa plans to remodel in 2018. The company is also set to open 50 new stores throughout the mid-Atlantic and Florida this year.

There are now three Wawa’s within a four mile stretch of Coastal Highway, complementing an influx of tourists, tourists-turned-residents and folks who need to get their made-to-order-meatball-hoagie-with-a-warm-cookie-and-coffee fix.
