Fire displaces family from Habitat for Humanity home in Salisbury

A Monday afternoon incendiary fire in Salisbury at a Dawn Court home built by Habitat for Humanity caused $50,000 in damage to the building and its contents.

The blaze originated in the living room, according to a news release from the Office of the State Fire Marshal, and the preliminary cause is identified as incendiary, which an official said is arson.

It was discovered by a passerby, the release states, and 20 firefighters responded to the scene.

Anyone with information about the fire is urged to call the Salisbury Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office at 410-713-3780.

Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County is collecting donations of clothing, shoes, school supplies, Christmas gifts and food or gift cards to restaurants for the homeowner and her two children, who have been displaced by the fire, according to a news release.

Donations will be accepted at the Habitat ReStore from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, the release states, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.
